New book news!
Brilliant news! Well, I guess that all depends on whether or not you like my writing. SO.
IF YOU LIKE MY WRITING, brilliant news! I’ve sold my second novel ANNIE LEBLANC IS NOT DEAD YET to the unspeakably cool Wednesday Books in the US in spring 2024. Honestly, I’ve been a big fan of Rainbow Rowell and Courtney Summers for a while now, so to have the publishing house that puts out their books agree to have anything to do with me was surreal.
This new book has been in my head for a loooooong time (try, like, nearly ten years). It first came to me while I was doing my MA, where I tried (and failed) to position it as literary fiction. In short, it (like me) was always destined to be YA. In its current form, it follows Wilson Moss, who wins her wacky town’s contest, which results in her being given the chance to bring someone back from the dead. She chooses her best friend Annie, who wasn’t always the best of friends when she was alive. If Wil wants to keep Annie back from the dead for good, she has to right wrongs from their shared past, revisiting old friends and long-dead rivalries, while also stumbling upon new relationships and complicated dynamics.
All of this is set against a (fictitious version of) weird California mountain town I grew up visiting as a kid, with 90s alt pop as a soundtrack, Buffy as a constant source of inspiration, and served with a healthy dose of homemade apple pie.
In short, it’s all the weirdness I could’ve ever imagined. I’m super stoked to be bringing it into the world, especially in my home country. It feels really weird to think that my parents, family and friends will be potentially able to walk into a store and find it there. Woof.
Anyway, I can’t wait to talk more about it! Stay tuned.
